Top 5 places to visit in Turkey: beyond the all-inclusive resort

Spending just over 3 months in Turkey (even overstaying our Visa by one day), you might think we have seen everything there is to see in Turkey. But that is far from true. Yes we did spend over a month Volunteering in Çeşme and we spend 3 weeks climbing. But during our remaining time we…

Lake Bafa: bouldering amongst ancient ruins

Seeing just a few images of Lake Bafa and surroundings was enough to lure us there. Even without the climbing potential it is a mesmerizing place. The lake, which in olden days was part of the ocean shoreline, is surrounded by divers oddly shaped boulders that seem to have rolled of the impressive backdrop that…

Volunteering with refugees in Turkey

Volunteering with refugees in Turkey After hitchhiking for three days straight from Romania all the way to the Anatolia region in Turkey we were exhausted but excited to finally arrive in Çeşme. The city is most frequented by Turkish tourists for its amiable bay area with marina and shops, but we had a better reason…

Romania in the footsteps of Dracula and Hercules

Heading towards Timișoara After just having experienced Serbian hospitality to its full extend (read our previous blog), we decided to try hitchhike towards Romania once again. Full of high expectations we headed to the same petrol station where we spend last evening hitchhiking. After 4 more hours it seemed like no one was heading in…

A roadside adventure in Serbia

When we finally left Slovenia on Friday, we felt more optimistic than ever to hitchhike to our next destination: Romania. To get there we would pass through Croatia and Serbia. And we were convinced that the hospitality we encountered during our stay in Slovenia would continue there. It was Saturday night. We had hitchhiked for…

Slovenia: the perfect place for an adventurous holiday

After our climbing adventure in Switzerland brought us so close to the Italian border, we decided to change our planned itinerary. Instead of going to Austria next to then reach Hungary, we headed direction Slovenia through Italy. After we had a hard time hitchhiking in Italy (being stuck on the ring road, see our facebook…

Climbing the Diga di Luzzone: the tallest artificial climbing wall in the world

The Everest of wall climbing The first destination of our six month hiking and climbing trip from Belgium to India was the Diga di Luzzone in the Ticino district in Switzerland. The Diga di Luzzone is a 165 meter high dam and home to the longest artificial climbing route in the world. In the 90’s…

Leaving Belgium and the first few days of hitchhiking

There were two weeks between the day that we quit our jobs and our departure, plenty of time to prepare everything. Or so we thought. Next to the obvious and exciting task at hand of packing our backpack, there are quite a few boring tasks. I’ll spare you the details, but they include unregistering your…

What’s up with the rope?

"Should I bring my rope?" is a blog about our hitchhiking trip along the historical hippie trail from Western-Europe to India and Nepal. Against all advice and common sense we decided to bring all our sport climbing gear, including a rope. Will the beautiful places and people our climbing passion leads us to, be worth the heavy backpack? Find out in our blog starting early June.

Shall we keep you updated?
